Treatment
Treatment is at the forefront of the school. Evidence-based cognitive-behavioral practices form the basis for treatment and the environment is highly structured and closely supervised, with a high staff-to-child ratio. Treatment is tailored to each girl and enhanced by a unique nurturing and supportive environment.
Academics
The school’s curriculum is tailored to the individual needs of each student and is based on the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks. Lessons include group activities and one to one tutoring sessions. Small class sizes allow teachers to highly individualize their lessons.
Recreation and Activities
Recreational activities are an important element of the program. There are many spaces at the schools where the students come together to talk, read, watch movies, play board or video games, draw and write. The campus also features a gym, an art room, a library, a fitness room and an outdoor playing field.
Activities include horseback riding, skiing or snowboarding, dance lessons, drama, kayaking and canoeing, basketball, softball, volleyball, yoga, visits to museums, tours of Boston’s historic sites and trips to the mountains and beaches.
Clinical Services
The school provides many services to enable effective treatment of the children. This may include:
Individual therapy: Staff use role-plays, skill coaching and a directed nurturing approach to teach girls concrete grounding techniques, emotion regulation strategies and effective interpersonal skills in individual therapy.
Group therapy: Clinical staff base discussion topics and therapy on the specific needs of the girls in their groups. The focus is on teaching social skills, substance abuse prevention and helping girls develop a stronger sense of self, self-worth and sense of empowerment.
Family Support: Clinical staff provide ongoing support, communication, feedback and skill development to families of day students.
Therapy services, case management and collaboration with outside providers are performed by a master’s-level clinician.
