Academics
The school’s students deal with many different issues, such as language-based and nonverbal learning disabilities, dyslexia, writing or comprehension difficulties, executive functioning challenges, and more. The school’s goal is to help each student get back on track by establishing exactly what's standing in the way of each child's success and giving the best care and support. A main goal of the school is to help students regain their confidence, overcome their learning disabilities or challenges, and be able to return to their home schools whenever possible.
Middle School Academics: The middle school curriculum focuses on core academics in math, language arts, sciences, and history and social studies. In many classes, two staff members work together to make sure each child is able to follow the lessons and participate in a meaningful way. In addition to the core curriculum, the school offers special enhancement programmes, including physical education, technological literacy, and arts and crafts ograms. Enrichment programmes in areas such as cooking, strategy games, jobs, and sports are also offered.
High School Academics: Math, language arts, history, and science comprise the curriculum for all students. To meet individual needs, students work in small classes, and extra support is available for students who need extra help. The school offers 10 different sports, including basketball, softball, running, ultimate frisbee, skating, and kayaking. Other enrichments offered are knitting, jewellery studios, woodshops, metalshops, and arts udios. The curriculum is designed to ensure that all students receive a high-quality education aligned with the Massachusetts State Curriculum Frameworks. No matter what their learning challenges or gaps in their education, all students will be prepared to pass the required state exams. This includes the MCAS exam, which 99% of the school’s seniors have passed.
