Arlington School is a college preparatory high school for students with academic, social, or emotional challenges. The school is located on the grounds of McLean Hospital in Belmont.

School’s Mission Statement
Arlington School provides a safe and supportive school community where students grow academically, heal and thrive emotionally, assume greater control over their learning, and work toward personal goals. We strive to unlock the genius within our students and maximize their potential as confident learners, so they become knowledgeable, creative, independent, and integrated individuals.
We believe that change is possible for every student, that learning renews self-worth, and that our students can overcome the challenges that impede their success. Arlington School's core values—discovery, flexibility, empathy, respect, tolerance, patience, and courage—serve as the framework for our learning community.

Academics
Arlington School offers a full college preparatory curriculum, leading to a high school diploma. As each student's circumstances, background, and abilities are unique, the program is individually designed and tailored to each student.

The school’s curriculum contains courses in the following major areas:

  • English Language Arts

  • Mathematics

  • History

  • Science

  • Visual and Performing Arts

  • Health and Fitness

  • Study Skills

In addition, students can sign up for community college courses as well as distance learning courses as part of their academic program.

The curriculum is aligned with the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and Common Core State Standards, and students must pass the state-mandated Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS) tests.

The school provides students with many clinical services and support, including:

  • A clinical case manager who helps him or her reach social and emotional goals

  • A weekly building group to work on goals in a peer context. Options can include topics in wellness, living skills, art therapy, social skills, The Birds and the Bees, relationship groups, and transition skills.

The staff is available as needed throughout the school day to help students cope with difficulties and learn to problem-solve.
